Car free camping vacation

Although the British weather is improving, it can never really be relied on, especially when it comes to booking a camping holiday. The worst thing is when you have planned your vacation, got all your camping equipment, and just when you thought you were going to get a nice relaxing holiday away from the cars and busy life, a storm kicks in and it rains.

Well, you might have thought that was something you had to live with just to get away from the busy life, well you were wrong.

If you live in the US, or spend that bit extra on your holiday to get over there, then you can get lovely weather for your camping holiday, plus the knowledge that there really will be no cars, at all.

So you can ditch all that heavy duty outdoor clothing, and head for the thinner gear because in the US there are several islands, most of which are national parks and seashores, where cars are banned, plus because they are parks and shores, you can pitch a tent almost anywhere you want.

Here are some of these fantastic islands of which some are strangely less than 50 miles from huge cities like New York or Manhattan.

  • Channel Islands National Park - Catch a glimpse of a wide range of sea life including humpbacks, orcas and blue whales.
  • Dry Tortugas National Park - Go snorkelling through the 70 miles of coral and discover around 250 different ship wrecks.
  • Isle au Haut - one of the only ways to reach this island is via mail boat, better get booking your tickets now, or you could post yourself.
  • Cumberland Island National Seashore - Visit a huge mansion built almost 250 years ago and it’s just 2 miles from the beautiful beaches.
  • Isle Royale National Park - This consists of over 400 small islands dotted about for you to discover during your vacation.
  • Fire Island - Relax on the unspoilt beaches and venture into the dense oak forests, full of wildlife.
  • Cape Lookout National Seashore - Over 56 miles of undeveloped beaches just waiting for you to visit and pitch up a tent right next to the water line.

Most of these islands are only accessible via boat or ferry and are perfectly suited for a camping vacation, with rustic cabins and open beach as far as the eye can see, you can camp anywhere you want on these amazing islands.

Not only do you get pick of the beach, but you will also be able to experience other things that you wouldn’t be able to on an ordinary camping holiday including snorkelling.
