Contractors That Don’t Accept Credit Cards Are Losing Business

Contractors have come to the conclusion that in order to successfully compete for a contract job they must be prepared to accept credit card payments. It is true that a small percent of jobs can be negotiated for cash and the person is able to pay with cash, but it is rare. Typically it is hard for a client to have access to that much money at one time so credit cards become the solution for many. As a trades person in any sector of the profession you can easily become a contractor who offers the option of paying by credit card in order to satisfy your customer and win the contract.

If you decide to accept credit cards one huge benefit is that you are paid almost instantly and it doesn’t matter how long the customer takes to pay off the credit card charge. Our economy is not fantastic right now, but many people still have credit cards with funds available. If you can offer them that option it may be more appealing and than cash because it gives themflexibility with their finances.

Some contractors may be concerned that adding credit cards as a payment option will mean huge expenses in terms of set up, charges and pos equipment. It really is easy and inexpensive. The transaction can, believe it or not, be processed by cell phone or land line. You simply dial an 800 number and follow some basic instructions to organize the payment. Once you have made the phone call your money is transferred into your company account within the next day or two. Setting up the account, for those that don’t have one, is stress free and takes only a day or sobefore it is active.

Customers today are doing so much more research and comparison shopping that you may be overlooked as a company if you don’t offer credit card payment options. Even if this option only brings you a few extra jobs each month it is worth it. Getting set-up with a merchant account won’t be a business decision you regret.
